How many exams are required to be cleared to become a Company Secretary?
There are three stages to pursue the Company Secretary course, they are:
- Foundation Program
- Executive Program &
- Professional Program
In addition to the above, the students have to undergo Practical Training under a practicing CS for about 15 months which he/she may opt to start after passing the Executive Program.

Does ICSI follow the OMR based examination pattern?
As per the recent amendment issued by the Council of the Institute on Introduction of new syllabus, it has been decided that Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) based Examination (Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions) will be conducted for the Foundation Program under the new syllabus.
Whereas the remaining two stages i.e. Executive and Professional programs will be conducted on the traditional method of subjective examination.
What is the eligibility to join the Company Secretary course?
A student who is a 10+2 pass out or equivalent has to pursue the three stages of exams of Company Secretary to become qualified. However, a student who is a graduate of all streams (except fine arts), Foundation Pass of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (CPT), Foundation Pass of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India or of any other accountancy Institution in India or abroad recognized by the Council of the Institute can directly enroll to the Executive program without passing the Foundation Examination.

What is the fee structure designed for this course?
Fee for CS Foundation Program:
- Registration fees with ICSI: ` 4,500
- Exam fees with ICSI: ` 12,00
CS Executive Program:
- For CS Foundation pass outs – ` 8,500
- For Commerce graduates – ` 9,000
- For Non-commerce graduates – ` 10,000 *The above-mentioned fee is not for coaching.
Can a graduate student appear directly for Executive Program of CS without clearing Foundation Program?
Yes. A graduate of all streams (except fine arts), is eligible to directly enroll to the Executive Program without passing the Foundation examination.
What is the specified time period for a student to take admission into CS course?
Admission to the CS Course is open throughout the year (provisional admission is also available).
What are the important dates for CS exams?
- June exam: 30th September of previous year
- December exam: 31st march of same year
- 28th February for December exam in the same year
- 31st August for June exam next year
How many examinations are held during the year?
Examinations are held twice a year in June & December.
Can only Final passed students of ICWAI and ICAI appear directly for Executive Program of CS without clearing Foundation Program?
No. After the recent notification passed by the ICSI, the eligibility has been amended stating that, ‘Students who have passed Foundation Examination of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI-CMA) or students who have passed Common Proficiency Test ( CPT) of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI ) are eligible to take direct registration in CS Executive Program. (Earlier only Final Passed students of ICAI-CMA /ICAI were allowed to take direct registration in CS Executive Program)’.
Further, Rs.9,000 shall be charged from them for admission in CS Executive Program. (Fees as applicable to commerce graduate).

What are the passing criteria for CS exams?
A student has to get a minimum of 40 marks in each paper (not subject) and an aggregate of 50% in all the papers together to qualify in the examination. The exam is not subject to negative marks.

Chartered Accountant (CA)
1: What is the eligibility for appearing in the CA-Foundation examination?
Any student who has completed his 12th/PUC-II can appear in the CA-Foundation examination.
2: Who conducts the CA – Foundation examination and what is the fee for appearing in the examination?
CA Course all levels are conducted and regulated by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India). The registration fee (2018) of the CA-Foundation examination is as below.

3. How many times can I appear in CA- Foundation examination once I register with ICAI?
Foundation Course registration is valid for 3 years and can be revalidated any number of times for further 3 years period by paying revalidation fee of Rs. 300/- or as decided by the Council from time to time. In a period of 3 years you can take the CA-Foundation examination six times (yearly two times).
4: When can I register for Foundation Course?
For registering in Foundation Course, a student must have appeared in class 12th Examination.
5: When are the Foundation Examinations held and what is the cut-off date of registration in Foundation?
The Foundation Examinations will be held in the month of May and November every year. 31st Dec. and 30th June is the cut-off date for registration for being eligible to appear in May and November examinations respectively covering a study period of four months.
6: How many Papers are there in CA-Foundation?
There will be 4 papers in Foundation.

7: Is CA Foundation examination objective or subjective?
Out of 4 papers, 2 papers are subjective type (Paper 1 & 2) and rest of the 2 papers are objective type (Paper 3 & 4).
8: Is there negative marking in Foundation like CPT?
Yes. Negative marking is for Papers 3 & 4 only and not for subjective papers i.e. 1 & 2. For each wrong answer is paper 3&4, there is negative marking of 0.25.
9: How can I qualify/pass CA-Foundation Examination?
You can qualify Foundation Examination by securing 50 % in aggregate and 40 % in each subject individually.
10: When can I register for CA-Intermediate Course (IPCC)?
CA Inter exam is regulated by ICAI twice in a year in the months of May & November. CA Inter registration is opened throughout the year. But you should register before the due date. A Student can appear for CA Inter exams after 8 Months of having submitted the CA Inter Registration Form. See below CA Inter registration last dates.

11: If I register in Intermediate Course in July 2018 through CA Foundation route, when can I appear for Intermediate Exams?
You can appear in Intermediate exams in May 2019. You have to complete 8 months of study period before appearing for the Intermediate Examination.
12: I am appearing/have appeared for CA Foundation examination in November 2018 how can I register in CA Intermediate examination?
The results of CA Foundation November 2018 will be declared in December 2018. You can register for CA Intermediate by 28th February 2019, for the exam in May 2019.

The registration under the Revised Scheme for the Final Course will start from July 1, 2018.

Under the Revised Scheme, you can appear for the Final examination during the last six months of Practical Training and after successfully completing Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS)

22: Which is the last examination of Final (existing) Course?
November, 2020 will be the last examination of Final (existing) course.
23: Can I register for articleship/practical training after clearing only 2nd group of Intermediate instead of the old scheme of mandatory passing 1st Group of IPCC before being eligible for enrolling under articleship/practical training?
Yes, the same has been changed and you may register for practical training after passing either of any of the group or both the groups of Intermediate.
24: What is Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICIITSS) and Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (Advanced ICITSS)?
ICITSS (OC & ITT) is combination of Information Technology Training (ITT) and Orientation Course (OC) and Advanced ICITSS (GMCS & Adv. ITT) is combination of General Management Communication Skills (GMCS) and Advanced ITT. ICITSS and Advanced ICITSS will be effective from 1st July 2017 and are of 4 weeks each.
